SAVE THE PEAKS CALL TO ACTION: Protest Arizona Snowbowl's Proposed Cultural & Environmental Destruction!

Saturday, February 17th
8:30 a.m.
1/2 mile before Snowbowl turnoff on Highway 180

We are holding a protest to draw attention to concerns with Snowbowl's proposed expansion and Snowmaking with wastewater. Snowbowl's plan threatens public health, would cause environmental destruction & extreme desecration of the Sacred San Francisco Peaks.

Join us and take a stand for culture, environment and public health!

We are gathering at 8:30 a.m. on Highway 180 right before Snowbowl Rd.
There is a parking turnout 1/2 a mile before Snowbowl Rd on the right hand side. Look for people holding banners! Dress warmly!

The Ski Area recently closed for 3 days and has rescheduled to open for this President's day weekend. In a recent release Snowbowl's manager stated, "With good conditions, [Snowbowl] anticipate[s] approximately 10,000 skiers for the holiday weekend."

In the face of climate change Snowbowl is attempting to make fake snow with 180 million gallons of treated sewage effluent per season on the San Francisco Peaks. The Peaks are held sacred by more than 13 Native American Nations. Lawsuits have been filed to address human health, environmental and cultural impacts.

Protect Sacred Sites & our Environment! Defend Human Rights!

On Wednesday, December 13th, the Flagstaff City Council announced that utilities director Ron Doba renewed a contract to sell treated sewage effluent to Arizona Snowbowl for snowmaking purposes on the San Francisco Peaks.

“The decision by Ron Doba is alarming because it was a closed door deal made by a single person.” Said Rudy Preston of the Flagstaff Activist Network. “Considering the environmental, cultural and public health impacts with the proposed use of treated sewage effluent, our elected officials should have given an opportunity to the citizens of this community to participate in what should be a public process."

Tell the Flagstaff Water Commission that we want "REAL SNOW FOR THE PEAKS!"

Thursday, December 21st (Solstice!)
3:00 PM
Flagstaff City Hall

* Meet at Rt. 66 & Humphries!
* Water Commission meeting starts at 4PM inside the City Council Chambers.
* Reclaimed Wastewater expert Dr. Kathy Propper will be presenting to the Water Commission.

Did you know that using reclaimed wastewater to water our lawns has questionable
health risks? So why should we sell it to be sprayed on the Peaks?

TAKE ACTION!
Write the Flagstaff City Council Members and Ron Doba (head of City Utilities) and let them know that you think reclaimed wastewater snowmaking is a health hazard not worth risking!

The use of wastewater to make artificial snow is considered desecration of Nuvatukyaovi, "The place of the snow on the peaks"; considered the spiritual home of the Katsinam.
