Youth of the Peaks Bring a Message to Snowbowl! This Mountain Is Sacred! Arizona Snowbowl officially opened its ski resort today on the San Francisco Peaks, the latest they have been forced to open in history. After a long day of skiing, people on their way down from Snowbowl were met with Youth of the Peaks who were attempting to bring the message that this mountain is sacred and Snowbowl's plans to expand their resort and produce artificial snow from reclaimed waste water are not culturally appropriate and acceptable to the community. The big story to the Snowbowl-friendly (or we could say Snowbowl-bought) media was that they "miraculously" - "pulled the rabbit out of the hat" and opened after such a long dormancy. Earlier that morning at sunrise, members of the Save the Peaks Coalition had a prayer ceremony to protect the mountain near where they are planning to develop. Forest service and the Sherrif were ready for them. We guess that to them that people of prayer are a threat. That people who honor culture, the sacred, life, and the beauty of our world are dangerous.
---- But we have our own media to hold them accountable to their actions --- Youth of the Peaks decided to bring the message that this mountain is sacred to the skiiers and Snowbowl today. Some people were fairly hostile, giving vulgar gestures and cursing at Youth of the Peaks, although no one felt there safety was threatened. The Youth of the Peaks remained calm to just give the message that this mountain is sacred, and as youth we are trying to protect it. We do not wish to escalate situations with skiiers. We wish to shake the foundations of power such as Arizona Snowbowl, Flagstaff City Council, the coporate press, and the elite who value profit and money over everything else.
One skiier effectively communicates Snowbowl's message to Youth of the Peaks.
Cars drive by to hear a different message about the peaks. It is not for sale. Quote of the Day: "You Make Sense..."
